SOUTH MACON PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT BOARD MEETING TUESDAY, MARCH, 10th, 2026

Meeting was called to order at 3:40 p.m. by President Debbie Herbert Trustees in attendance were Trustees Susan Strahl, Tami Long, Cathy Murray, and Mindy Younker. Anna Jesse and Salli Pritts were absent.  Vicki Carr, and Lori Nixon were also in attendance.

Agenda, Minutes and Financial Report:   Agenda, minutes and financial report were read and approved for February.

GRANTS

 ALA Grant – Libraries Transforming Communities Round 3 – $10,000 received funds 5/1/25 grant is ongoing and will end 5/1/26.

ALA Grant Round 4 Submitted – 12/8/25 – we did not receive this grant.

Security Grants for Public Libraries open we will complete the request for this grant by April 15, 2026 due date.

New and ongoing:

-        Road Scholar Schedule:

o   Dr Norm Moline – The National Park Service in Illinois: Places to Experience Our Cultural History – April 29^th 6pm

o   Daniel Overturf – Illinois Trails and Traces: Portraits and Stories Along the State’s Historic Routes – Sept. 2^nd 6pm

o   Julia Rendleman – Illinois’ Growing News Deserts and Why We Should Care – Oct. 6^th – 6pm

-        Insurance Inspection:

o   Replace Surge Protector – will be completed Feb. 5^th

o   Replace Fire Safety Lights – will be completed Feb. 5^th – Apex Electrical Solutions Inc cost for both $2,529.00

o   Fire System Inspection – Fessi from Mattoon completed the fire system testing on 3/5/26.

-        Review and Adopt updated Emergency Protocols and Procedures add to Building Security Policy – motion made my Susan Strahle and 2^nd by Mindy Younker motion passed with 5 yes and 0 nay.

Many activities are planned for the coming month, including exercise classes, book club, craft events, LEGO Club, Pi day, Leprechaun craft, Spring Rugs, Bee Keeper and many more activities.  

Summer Reading planning is underway.

Meeting was adjourned at 4:35 pm with a motion by Mindy Younker and a second by Susan Strahle.
